Dermatitis is a general term for skin inflammation. The rashes range from mild to severe and can cause a variety of problems, depending on their cause. There are several different types of dermatitis. Some can last for long time, while others may cycle between flare-ups and periods of no symptoms.
Atopic dermatitis
People commonly refer to this as eczema. During flare-ups, patches of skin may appear rough, dry, and itchy.
Contact dermatitis
Contact dermatitis happens when a substance touches skin and causes an adverse reaction. These reactions can develop into rashes that burn, sting, itch, or blister.
Neurodermatitis
This condition is caused by nerve endings underneath the skin that have become irritated, causing an intensely itchy sensation
Stasis dermatitis
This condition occurs varicose veins where the return of venous blood from the legs is impaired, leading to pooling of blood in the lower limb Stasis dermatitis.
Nummular dermatitis
Often occurs after a skin injury caused by a burn, abrasion, or insect bite and is typically characterized by itchy and uncomfortable coin-shaped sores on the skin.
Seborrheic dermatitis
An inflammatory reaction to Malassezia yeast, a naturally occurring organism on the skin.
